Marriage in Puerto Rico FAQs
- The following documents are required: birth certificate, divorce decree (if applicable), spouse's death decree (if applicable), identification card or passport. All must be valid and original documents.
- A health license certified by a local physician are required. The license must not exceed ten (10) calendar days prior to wedding date. You may have the lab works performed by a certified laboratory in the United States, but all tests have to be performed within the required time frame of fourteen (14) calendar days prior to the wedding date.
- For the marriage to be legal, a civil ceremonywith a judge/minister is required. A religious ceremony is not requried, but if you have one, a civil ceremony is not necesary.
- From the day the physician's certificates are issued, the bride and groom have ten (10) calendar days to submit all documents to the local demographic registry (including official stamps) and officiate the ceremony.
